in this section I will talk about my teaching strategies and classroom environment. I will delve deeper into my classroom rules and what I personally will promote and strategies for adapting when this might work
Teaching strategies
When you have children who are not in the best of moods and showing signs that they are disinterested or not ready to learn, I think the best way to handle the situation is be patient with them, as there’s always an underlying reason to their behaviour. Using different learning approaches can be beneficial in times like this.
When working at enable, we had children and young adults with disabilities and when doing tasks with them I learned over time that you never really stick with your session plan as you don’t know what mood and behaviour your walking in to. So when situations like this happened I had to re think different ideas for that session, adapting to the atmosphere in the room. We also had a quiet room where any of the individuals could go and take deep breaths and calm down, until there ready to join the group again.
In my personal experience I think adapting to the child’s needs and allowing them to process how there feeling and giving them more support in their work, whether that’s giving them a different approach or task to do the work, to fully engage them or having a one to one sit down with the child.
Classroom Environment
In my classroom, I would create a safe and supportive environment where students feel confident and trust that I can help them learn new things. I want my classroom to be a place where all students feel welcome and valued, no matter who they are or where they come from.
To make learning fun, I would use colourful displays to show the work that the students have achieved. This would encourage their self-esteem and show them that their hard work pays off. I would also make history topics fun, bold, and eye-catching to engage the children in more stimulating ways to learn.
In my classroom, I would have clear rules that promote respect, responsibility, and compassion. I believe that students should be active participants in their learning and development, so I would encourage them to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and take risks.
To support this, I would establish guidelines that promote active listening, giving and receiving feedback, taking turns, and being open-minded. I would also encourage students to take ownership of their education, so they can learn how to succeed in life. Overall, my goal is to create a classroom environment where all students feel supported, valued, and motivated to learn.
